Recipe: An Afternoon Smoothie Break

We all know I love the chocolate smoothie, but sometimes, particularly if I’m around the house for an entire day, it’s nice to throw together a different one in the afternoon. More smoothies mean you can potentially get more greens in your diet, such as this lovely kale.

No drink photo with this one because it looks just like a chocolate smoothie when you are done. Blueberries have a way of making all drinks go dark. And the added cinnamon makes this taste incredible.

Afternoon Smoothie

1/2 cup frozen or fresh spinach or kale

1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

1 1/2 cups frozen peaches

1/4 cup water (you don’t need this if everything is going into blender at room temp, otherwise you will need extra liquid to break up frozen elements added to blender)

1/4 cup vanilla soymilk

1 banana room temp (or frozen if you want a creamier sorbet-like version in hot summer weather)

5-6 toasted walnut pieces (this helps offset the sweetness of the fruit; we buy raw shelled walnuts in bulk and toast on a cookie sheet plain, 375 degrees for about 15 minutes; store in glass jar so you have on hand. I love them in smoothies!)

2-3 teaspoons cinnamon

Blend together in blender and enjoy!
